Dr Ju-Lee Ooi is an ophthalmologist with special interests in cataract surgery, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, medical retinal diseases and general ophthalmology. Dr Ooi is a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
Dr Ooi aims to provide high quality care to patients, with thorough assessment and evidence based treatment. She understands the importance of patients taking an active role in their health care through providing them information and education about their condition, the treatment options and helping them make informed decisions about their care.
Dr Ooi undertook her advanced training in ophthalmology at Sydney Eye Hospital. She completed a fellowship in Medical Retina at Westmead Hospital under the supervision of Professor Paul Mitchell. During this time she gained experience in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other diseases of the retina. She was a co-investigator on several major clinical trials in the treatment of these conditions. Dr Ooi has undertaken further study and training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Ooi has a strong commitment to medical research, and has published extensively in the peer-reviewed medical literature. She has presented at local, national and international ophthalmology conferences. Dr Ooi was awarded the Prince of Wales Hospital 'Major Contribution to Ophthalmology Research' Prize, and was awarded several research grants including the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation Grant, the Rebecca L Cooper Medical Research Foundation Grant and the Foundation for Children Grant.
Dr Ooi is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. As a consultant ophthalmologist at leading Sydney tertiary teaching hospitals, Dr Ooi teaches eye surgery to the next generation of eye surgeons.

Dr Ooi is a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she is the Ophthalmology Junior Medical Officer supervisor. She is a Staff Specialist ophthalmologist at Westmead Hospital. In these roles she teaches clinical and surgical skills to ophthalmology advanced trainees, as well as teaching ophthalmology to medical students, interns and resident medical officers.
