What to expect for your clinic visit

Upon arrival for your visit, our friendly reception staff will greet you and assist you with completing a patient registration form to ensure your personal identification details, medical history and list of medications are recorded on to our system.

At each visit, after checking in with our reception staff, you will then be seen by one of our clinical assistant staff who will check your vision, eye pressure, and in most cases, have your pupils dilated with eye drops. Pupil dilatation allows the doctor to more thoroughly examine the back of the eye such as the retina and macula. Dilating eye drops will temporarily blur you vision and your ability to drive for several hours, and so please ensure that you make appropriate transport arrangements.

Eastwood Eye Specialists is a modern paperless office with Electronic Medical Record (EMR). This means contactless, hygienic and efficient care that is also environmentally friendly. From the time that you arrive and check in with the reception staff, your eye doctor will be supervising your care and will be instructing any relevant tests that you may be required to receive. To ensure time efficient delivery of care, your eye specialist may instruct the orthoptic staff to perform other eye examinations such as retinal scans or visual field tests, so that all relevant information is at hand during the consultation.

Your eye doctor will take a detailed medical history, taking the time to listen to your concerns, and examine your eyes with highly specialised equipment using microscope and optical lenses. All of this information including any scans and test results will be analysed together so that an accurate diagnosis and management plan is formulated. The doctor will explain all of the results and will also be able to show you the relevant imaging of your eye on the monitors.

Same day urgent treatment and surgery is provided. Patients requiring urgent treatment upon their diagnosis will also be able to receive their treatment (such as retinal laser or eye injection) at the same visit.

Please expect to spend up to 2 hours for your initial consultation, although in most cases, much faster and streamlined visit times are achieved. We value and respect your time but strive to not rush our consultation and treatment. Our doctors and staff want to ensure that every patient gets a comprehensive eye examination to ensure the most accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan. Some eye problems can be addressed within 30 minutes, whilst more complex problems can take up to 2 hours.

As a tertiary referral eye clinic, our doctors do manage eye emergencies and complex problems such as sudden loss of vision, eye infection or retinal detachment. These can at times delay our regular appointment schedules but where possible our staff will contact you in advance and advise you of the expected delay or offer you an alternative appointment time. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience when such emergencies do arise.

Appointment cancellation policy

Our reception staff will contact you 1-2 days prior to your visit to remind you about your scheduled appointment and for its confirmation. We understand that unexpected changes to your schedule may arise but would greatly appreciate it if you could contact us promptly in such cases to cancel or reschedule your appointment, as we would then be able to offer that time slot to another patient.
