Dr Edwin Figueira is an Australian-trained consultant ophthalmologist with subspecialist expertise in oculoplastic, eyelid, lacrimal (tear duct) and orbital surgery.

Dr Figuiera has public hospital appointment as a consultant eye specialist at the prestigious Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, as well as at several leading private hospitals in Sydney.

Dr Figueira has extensive expertise in minimal incision eyelid surgery, endoscopic tear duct surgery, excision of periocular/eyelid tumours and associated oculoplastic reconstructive surgery, thyroid eye disease, and orbital (eye socket) surgery.

Dr Figueira has a strong track record in clinical research and keeps up to date with the latest in his area of subspeciality expertise. He has presented at various national and international conferences. Furthermore, Dr Figueira completed a Masters in Ophthalmology by research at the University of NSW, Sydney. His research involved cutting edge science to discover novel molecular markers for stem cells on the ocular surface. Dr Figueira has published widely in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery. Dr Figueira obtained his specialist ophthalmology qualifications in Australia, having trained at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. Dr Figueira then pursued further advanced training in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery in Adelaide, South Australia under the mentorship of Professor Dinesh Selva and Dr Garry Davis. This is an internationally renowned oculoplastics fellowship providing extensive surgical experience at both the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital treating the full range of pathology affecting adult and paediatric patients.

Public Hospital Appointment

Dr Figueira is a consultant eye surgeon at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. He is actively involved in the teaching and supervision of the next generation of doctors including ophthalmology registrars, junior doctors and medical students. Being a tertiary centre of excellence, at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Dr Figueira performs complex eyelid, lacrimal (tear duct), and orbital surgery that has been referred in from all areas of Sydney.
